To accomplish my goal I did 3 things, propose questions to answer with my investigation, learn the basics of Portuguese mostly focusing on pronunciation and finally put all of the obtained knowledge in a book made to teach how to speak the basics of the language while teaching a bit of history.
The first question I asked was the most essential: How was Portuguese created?, this was the first and most important question, the other were: How is Portuguese similar to other latin languages? and Are there any sub-variants that still exist?, those two question were as to add to the history of the language while at the same time help in the making of my book.
I researched for answers for my questions in multiple places around the internet, after that I went to research in encyclopedias.
At the same time I read a book and took informal classes on the Portuguese language as to understand it and be able to portray it with my book.
The biggest obstacle I encountered was the lack of information about the language, it's history was extremely straightforward "vulgar latin becomes Portuguese" and that's it, every single website I visited said the exact same things and as such cut my capacity to make a bibliography as almost no sites added more information. This was solved by reading encyclopedias though, which contained a much more detailed description of everything I researched.
Another obstacle came with question number 3 since apparently Galician is so close to Portuguese both linguistically and historically that it is mostly regarded as part of the lusophone (Portuguese speaking) world. This also cut a part of my information and planned bibliography from existence.
