Out in Nature

"My husband and I live in Lander up in Sinks Canyon. Back in the late 1880’s settlers settled up in this canyon area outside of Lander and consequently, established a designated cemetery. It was called the Borner-Garden Cemetery. However, over the years and most likely due to deaths in the middle of winter, people started burying their dead outside of this cemetery boundary and to the north, which is now part of our land. Many in this cemetery died from the 1918-1919 Spanish flu, according to archives in Lander. I have this constant reminder of how devastating this flu was back then to a tiny community who depended on each other."
