Ed Vancor

Ed was born and raised in Bellows Falls; attending Central elementary school, BFMS and graduating from BFUHS in 1981. Ed was class President all four years, also a four year athlete in the sports of football, basketball and baseball. He saw considerable playing time in both football and basketball, however it was the baseball diamond where Ed achieved his greatest accomplishments. Ed was a two time CVL first team all-star for his solid glove and tremendous hitting skills. ( We all know it was not for his speed on the bases) He was a valuable second baseman and pitcher for Coach Bisbee’s squad. Ed also received the coveted Maurice Dexter Baseball Award, given annually at class night to a senior baseball player for dedication and determination on and off the field.

During summer breaks from school, Ed was a member of the Bellows Falls Babe Ruth and Post 37 American Legion baseball teams. Matter of fact, Ed’s last season of playing for Post 37 was cut short as he left in mid-July to become a United States Marine. In his last legion game he threw a 1-hit shutout to beat Springfield, the next morning he was in Paris Island, South Carolina to begin boot camp.

After serving his country for 4 years, he returned to Bellows Falls to start a family with his wife, Lisa, a 1983 graduate of BFUHS. In 1989 he welcomed his only child and future BFUHS graduate Zachary into the world.

Ed has always been an active community member in Bellows Falls, he volunteered and coached for the Bellows Falls Junior league, coached at Vermont Academy and for the past 23 years he has been an active volunteer with the Connecticut Valley Peewee Football League. Ed’s dedication and willingness to do whatever it takes to ensure that every kid that wants to play in the league, gets a chance to play, regardless of their ability to pay. Ed is a board member of the league now, active on the golf committee where he recruits players and businesses to dig deep to raise a lot of money each year. Every year at opening day, you will see Ed at mid-field high fiving every player that comes onto the field. He then gets on the mic to give a not-so-brief history of the league. You will then find him at the field every single Sunday, doing the 50\50 raffle or whatever else needs to be done.
