Betty Haggerty

Betty Haggerty is a 1962 graduate of Northfield High School (VT). While in high school, she was a member of District and All State Chorus and Orchestra (Clarinet), National Honors Society, Green Mountain Girls State, Student Council, Yearbook Committee, Intramural Sports (long before Title IX, there were no interscholastic sports for girls). During the summers she worked at a local summer camp where she met her husband Hugh and longtime life friend and fellow hall of famer Barbra Comtois. Betty went on to UVM after high school and graduated in 1966 with a degree in Education. After teaching at a few schools in Vermont from 1966-67, Betty stayed home to look after her kids. Betty and Hugh moved to Bellows Falls in 1978, in 1982 she started to teach at the Falls Playschool. In 1985 she became the director at the Falls Playschool where stayed until 1999. Betty still resides in Bellows Falls today and has 2 kids and 4 grandkids. Both of her kids are graduates of BFUHS.

If teaching and raising a family wasn’t enough Betty gave back to the community. She is still involved in many church committees, friends of the library, BF Woman's Club (various leadership positions), Delta Kappa Gamma women educator honorary society, current president of the VT Mothers, Inc. still volunteering at the Central Elementary School. She gave to the Rockingham Free Public Library Trustee, BF Boosters Club, Our Place Drop-in Center Board, Juvenile Diversion Board, Windham County Reads Board. Betty was also chosen as the 2013 VT Mother of the Year and nominated by 1992 VT Mother of the Year and longtime friend Barbra Comtois. She was also recognized as the Layperson of the Year at the school many years.

Betty’s compassion and kindness has touched so many of us in the Terrier Family. She has passed that compassion and kindness to anyone who she as passed which is so many of us.
