Building a Better Community Award

We believe that it takes a village to educate a child, and in that spirit we need to look outside of our parents, teachers, and students for inspiration, education, and hope. The Building a Better Community award is given to units that have shown they embrace this philosophy by making it their goal to reach out to their communities and bring in members that are neither parents, teachers, nor students, but still feel that they are stakeholders in the education and well-being of all children.

To receive this award, units must show that at least 10% of their total members are not Parents, Teachers, or Students in their school. Politicians, local business owners, clergy, or any private citizen who feels that adding their voice to support the PTA’s efforts in their community would be welcome. We are also asking for each unit that applies to submit a recap of any special events or programs the unit held to help increase this number. Units that earn this award will receive a certificate and a press release from NYS PTA to send to their local news outlets informing them of this achievement.

School Pride Award

There's no pride like School Pride, and no one should have more of it than the people who work in your school every day! Men Matter Award

Male engagement has been a PTA initiative for quite a few years! Studies show that children who have a positive male influence in their lives do better both in and out of the classroom. In support of this goal, we offer the Men Matter Award. Fathers, step- fathers, grandfathers, uncles, cousins, brothers, teachers – all men are welcome!

This award is given to units that foster a positive atmosphere for and actively recruit men into their units. If at least 30% of your members are male, and you can tell us about both your efforts to recruit more men and how you are promoting the positive influence they can have, you are eligible for this award. Units that earn this award will receive a certificate and a press release from NYS PTA to send to their local news outlets informing them of this achievement.

Founder's Day Recruitment Award

February is the anniversary of the National PTA, and to celebrate its founding, we offer the Founder's Day Recruitment Award. In 1897, Alice McLellen Birney recruited other parents who were concerned about the education and welfare of children and started the first PTA unit. In this spirit, if your unit can recruit 15 or more new members – people who are new to the organization and who have never been members before, you are eligible for the Founder's Day Recruitment Award. You must submit payment for these members in the month of February and then apply for the award on-line. Units that earn this award will receive a certificate.
