Youth mechanics

Tried and True is a social enterprise program for youth, ages 15 and older. All participants must fill out a Tried and True Small Engines application and come in for a formal interview with the program manager. During the interview, we will determine if the applicant is a good fit for Tried & True. We accept applications at anytime for the next session.

Youth Mechanics

Youth Mechanics are able to gain experience working on small engines under the supervision of a professional mechanic.

Tried and True is an exclusive opportunity. We are looking for youth that have a genuine desire to get into a career in the mechanical field. Selected participants will have previous experience with small engines and/or other mechanical work experience.

Youth will be able to participate in the program for a 72 hour rotation. The shop schedule is:

-Tuesdays AND Thursdays from 3:30pm-6:30pm

-Saturdays from 9:00am-1:00pm

Committed participation is required.

Youth Business Assistant

A Business Assistant will work along side our mechanic to help manage the business. Students who are taking business management classes or want to own or manage their own business are encouraged to apply. Mechanical experience is not required, but would be beneficial. Youth will be able to participate in the program for a 72 hour rotation.

Pick from two shifts per week below. Additional times may be available. Committed participation is required.

Tuesdays 3:30pm-6:30pm | Thursdays 3:30-6:30pm | Saturdays 9:00am-1:00pm on Saturdays

Learning Stipend and Part-Time Employees

Both Youth Mechanics & Youth Business Assistants are eligible to earn a learning stipend or become a part time employee. Stipends and employment opportunities become available after completion of the first session and will be awarded based on availability and standardized evaluations. Completion of the first session does not guarantee the stipend or employment; most students complete at least 2 sessions before becoming eligible the learning stipend.
