The Thought Experiment

Bloody Sebastian

The game of Bloody Sebastian is only ever played once, on Friday the 5th of November. 2021. The duration of play lasts 4 minutes and 33 seconds exactly.

The philosophy behind Bloody Sebastian is Deleuzian and the main aim is to create yourself a body without organs, this is an unpredictable outcome, not impossible but difficult.

There are 2 boards; donor and recipient. 13 blood filled hypodermic syringes are pulled one at a time from the donor and thrown at the recipient. The landing places of the hypodermics propose sites for the transplants of organs that are then extracted from the donor and transplanted onto the recipient after each throw. This begins with the brain, any shit found in the head of the donor must be discarded.

Next the organs from the torso are extracted, if the Covid virus is found it is worth a bonus; after all devotion to St Sebastian allegedly protected the faithful from the plague. Any other unexpected cliches are also worth double points; wearing your heart on your sleeve for example.

The game becomes ever more stressful, testing the most resolved of player, it can cause lapses of concentration, memory loss and losing touch with reality, resulting in the participant staggering feverishly around with handfuls of random organs and syringes.

Excitement mounts as hypodermics miss their target dangerously ricocheting around risking injury. The pressure is immense as spleen is confused with liver and pancreas, gall bladder falls to the floor.

But eventually there comes calm and purpose, towards the end of the game a surprising level of skill and dexterity is achieved. All too soon the time is up and the call must be answered.

As Bloody Sebastian can only ever be played once, the pieces must remain forever exactly where they landed at the last throw. After all it is only a game.
