Introduction from module tutor Ruby Worth

The Autonomous Performer and Ensemble 2022/23:
A Learning and Teaching Perspective

The Autonomous Practitioner is a 24-week module, one of the final strands for students undertaking the BA (Hons) Drama and Production Course at UHI Inverness. Within this the students study contemporary performance, theory and practice, and propose and produce their own performances. They do this within the wider context of being an ensemble of creative practitioners supporting each other to reflect on contemporary practice whilst cultivating their own voices and visions.

Performance themes explored by this year’s makers include the darker side of artificial intelligence, online dating, family life and addiction. Others are journeys into stories of heartbreak, the bar trade, the history of rum, a native jinn, and worlds beyond our own. The performance forms are diverse and representative of the range of voices and visions within the ensemble, from forum theatre and In-Yer-Face theatre, to science fiction, autobiographical and digital performances.

We invite those that can, to come to UHI Inverness for the day on 15th May. The performances and films will be on in the Performing Arts Studio between 10am-5pm and booking will be available through the website. Please use the registration form provided in the link at the top of the page.

If you are moved to share your audience experiences constructively with this year’s young makers, email them if you can’t say it in person. It helps to hear other reflections when you have been engrossed in your own making.

Thank you for joining us for our third year of Autonomous Practitioners live and online. We hope you find something, or more than one something, that inspires you and surges your creativity onwards into the world.
