Information for Parents

Choosing a tutor for your son or daughter is an important decision. For an initial discussion about your child's tutoring requirements, please contact me on 07917 062798 or email socialsciencetutor@outlook.com.

Do you guarantee top grades?

Whilst I cannot guarantee specific results or grades (as this depends on the student's motivation and performance on the actual exam day) my current private students are doing very well. Some of my former students have kindly provided reviews; please see the Testimonials page.

Are you qualified?

I am one of the best qualified tutors in the UK, with three degrees and a PGCE. I have studied at two Russell Group Universities and won various academic prizes. I have a full DBS Enhanced Disclosure certificate as well as Qualified Teacher Status. It is likely that I am more highly qualified and experienced than your child's school or college teacher!

What resources will be needed?

Students will need a copy of the course textbooks (see links under Sociology A level).

Do you tutor Home Ed students?

Yes - I have taught many home educated learners, who can choose from one-to-one or group tuition. For home educated students looking to apply to university I am able to be an Academic Referee and supply a reference to UCAS at no extra cost, provided there are weekly lessons with me.

How do I find an exam centre?

I am an approved Learning Partner for Tutors and Exams, who run examination centres across the UK. External candidates can register with them to sit their Psychology exams. I can even provide you with a discount code to reduce your entry fees if you are learning with me. Go to the Examination Centres page to learn more.

When do you tutor?

I offer term-time contracts based on the academic year - most students learn with me from September until the summer exams.

For one-to-one lessons, I'm currently fully booked for September 2021, and already taking enquiries for September 2022. For group lessons, I offer evening classes between 5pm and 8:15pm (UK time).

What are your fees?

From September 2021:

A level (AQA, Edexcel, CAIE) or GCSE: £48 per hour for one-to-one lessons.

AQA A level group tuition: £20 per hour

University Psychology (or related topics): £65 per hour

Why are your fees higher than some other tutors?

The private tuition industry is unregulated in the UK. This means there is no legal requirement for a tutor to even have a degree, let alone any teaching qualifications or experience. Tutors who charge lower hourly rates tend to be unqualified and inexperienced - some are A level students themselves! My rates reflect my superior qualifications (including a First Class degree and a Masters degree at Distinction) and the fact I am a fully qualified teacher with years of experience. If you are paying for private tuition, it is worth investing in the best. My group classes are priced at just £20 so that they are affordable for the majority of families.

How can I pay?

Payment is usually made by advance weekly or half-termly direct bank transfer. This is an easy and efficient payment method.

What if I need to cancel?

Students who arrive late will still be required to pay the full price of the lesson. Similarly, I require notice in advance if a lesson needs to be postponed or cancelled. Full terms and conditions will be provided in writing before the first lesson.
