  • In 1970, at the urging of the Conservation Commission and the initiative of Robert Mulliken, Kingston acquired Patuxet Park for $5,375. Kingston received their first state self-help matching grant to assist in the purchase of this property.

  • The property consists of 23.8 acres and was formerly known as Basler’s Farm, a former dairy farm.

  • A portion of Foundry Pond is located on the property. The pond is a dammed portion of Smelt Brook which runs through the property, through the pond, under Route 3A and the railroad before joining the Jones River.

  • An unnamed tributary feeds Smelt Brook which runs through a large wetland on the property.

  • Open fields and woodlands are also found on the site.

  • The area was used as a Native American summer encampment by the Patuxet sub-tribe of the Wampanoag tribe before European settlers arrived.
