LEARN ABOUT CRANBERRY WATERSHED PRESERVE!

  • The property was purchased in 1998 by Kingston with assistance from the State and consisted originally of 270 acres. Thirty acres were set aside for water supply and fifteen acres for the expansion of the Silver Lake school complex.

  • The cranberry bogs were built on the property between 1940 and 1945. When the property was purchased by the town the cranberry bogs, which consisted of 22 acres, were leased out and managed by a private company.

  • Pine Brook was used as an emergency water source for Brockton. A mile long underground pipe (24” ductile iron at a cost of $1.5 million) was installed in 1986 from Pine Brook all the way over to Forge Pond for this purpose when the previous owner was in possession of the property. Water was pumped through that pipe from 1981-1982.

There are streams, forest land, and three vernal pools on the property | The entire property is mapped as priority habitat for endangered species.
