Call for Submissions 2021

Younger generations are leading the change; let your voice be heard in discussions on diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion research in music! Submitting to JURM will allow you to make connections with other undergraduate students with similar interests, while disseminating your own research in the field. Submitting also provides an opportunity to receive feedback from a team of editors. We welcome and encourage works from first-year authors!



Who can submit?


  • JURM accepts submissions written by undergraduate students currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution.

  • JURM accepts submissions written by graduate students if submissions were written during an undergraduate course of study.


What do we accept?


JURM accepts any of the following works:

    • Articles

    • Research papers

    • Essays

    • Theses (e.g. capstone thesis)

    • Proposals for colloquies

    • Video or audio presentations


Formatting Specifics for Written Submissions


  • Submissions must be in either .pdf or .docx format.

  • There is a 2000-word (main text) minimum and an 8000-word (main text) maximum. However, authors who do not meet one of these limits may submit an appeal request with an abstract.

  • Authors must submit an abstract (250-300 words) and keywords.

  • If authors choose to use examples, they should be embedded into the paper body.

  • Authors should include section headings.

  • Please remove any identifying information.



Authors may submit an article to the call for works without formatting their work to fit the stated guidelines, but if selected, the author will be required to make revisions to fit the given formatting standards.



Formatting Specifics for Video or Audio Presentations


  • If submitting a visual presentation (e.g. a PowerPoint), please remove any identifying information.

  • If submitting media with an audio component, please remove any identifying information.

  • If submitting media with a video component, please download and submit your file as audio only and remove any identifying information.

  • Video and audio submissions and presentations selected for publication will be uploaded as a YouTube video to the JURM YouTube page.


If your work is selected for publication, identifying information will be returned to written and media materials.

We are no longer accepting works for the 2021 publication. Please stay tuned for information about submitting for JURM's 2022 publication

Submission Timeline 2021

Call for Submissions closes on June 30, 2021.

Authors and/or presenters will be notified of their submission status by August 13, 2021.

Final revisions on accepted works are due on December 1, 2021.
