Memories & Condolences

Please, share your thoughts and memories with us.

We want to compose a unique memory book, where each story, language, city or voice can find its own, special place.

We will all miss talking with him, but by talking about him, we can all feel closer to one another.

Toujours chercher l'inaccessible,

Toujours espérer l'impossible

Je voudrais décrocher la lune,

Je voudrais même sauver la Terre

Mais avant tout je voudrais

Parler à mon père

ENG

I would like to find the colours, the paintings that I have inside my heart

Of this decoration in pure lines, where I see you and I reassure myself

I would like to depart with you

I would like to dream with you

To always search for the inaccessible

To always hope for the impossible

I would like to take down the moon

and why not saving the Earth?

But before everything else I would like to talk to my father

song by Celine D "Parler à mon père"

Najlepszy Papa, by Józef Pawlikowski

I was incredibly fortunate to become a son of my Father. This amazing man will remain with me not only because of his many works, he left a part of himself in me. I am proud that he raised me. Today I say goodbye to him after a dozen years of having the best Papa I could ever dream of. Goodbye.

Do widzenia.

Miss you horribly, by Ewa Wielopolska

Dearest Daddy, our relationship was in constant evolution over the nearly seven decades, and importantly, we loved each other very much throughout and had even gotten closer in past few years. The thought of your most recent life with your wonderful Ania for the last 13 years brings me joy. You found the happiness and peace you deserved with Ania and her children which you made your own, while, thanks to your big heart, always having the capacity to love us all. Your life was filled with wonderful experiences, discovering new things that would enrich your life… oh the joys that you sought in them.

Here is an excerpt from my last email to you: “Daddy i miss you so much. Your wise words, your great outlook on life, your accepting Ignacy in my life and giving me such great advice. I miss you. I miss talking to you. Just know I love you very much. Be without pain. Love you, dearest Dziadzio. Miss you horribly. Eba”. “Eba” was Dad’s nickname for me.

Dziadzio, by Jan Wielopolski

If there was a list of lives worth celebrating, Kasper would certainly be perched at the top like on a tree he's attempting to fell the foliage down. He lived a meaningful life, many lives even, in a way. He lived it in chapters. Each chapter more thoughtful than the other. He coupled his enormous, and enormously talented, working hands with his insatiable curiosity, radical creativity, boundless mind, and passion for exploration to leave a trace on this planet as an artist, writer, sculptor, philosopher, farmer, builder, climber, adventurer... more importantly he marked countless souls as a perfectly authentic and utterly warm, connected, pleasant human, a wise friend to many who had the fortune to cross paths with him, a mentor, a role model, a father, a grandfather, and everything else to everyone in between. Luckily, his legacy will survive and outlast us all thanks to the words and works he left behind, not to mention joyful memories. l often praised him for how much he took advantage of life by reminding him that he had formally been retired for most of mine, and left very few, if any, days unseized along the way. To think his energy roamed for over 55 years before I even existed brings me peace. Let's take the time to mourn and not forget to celebrate Kasper.

My heart breaks with all of yours' who knew and loved my grandfather. RIP Dziadzio.

Z brzegu pamięci, by Thea Pawlikowska

Owocami owej współpracy były różne przedsięwzięcia: spotkania promujące rozmaite publikacje, wspólne prace badawcze i wydawnicze, wędrówki po terenie (Medyka, Kniażyce, Kalwaria Pacławska, Bolestraszyce, Krasiczyn).

Ostatnia wizyta Anny i Kaspra Pawlikowskich w MNZP miała miejsce w 2018 roku; znowu snuliśmy wspólne plany i zaczęliśmy je realizować…

W naszej pamięci Kasper Pawlikowski pozostanie mądrym, życzliwym, pełnym ciepła i szarmu człowiekiem. Współczujemy Rodzinie Jego odejścia.

How does one accept such a terrible loss? Like realising that you have left the cliff behind you and hang, untethered but unable to fall.

I have many memories of Kasper, but not nearly enough. His probing questions, his fine observations, his living of life to the fullest – these are what I will remember the most.

Please accept my deepest condolences.

At times in my life, Kasper was like a second dad. He was there to discuss anything with an open mind, guide me through life, and most importantly he was my biggest fan and support in my artistic talents. I've been blessed to have him part of this journey called life.

There aren’t and there will be never enough words to explain how the humanity needs people like you. I spent these days looking for the best way to explain how big you been for me and how much love, knowledge, emotions you been for everyone close to you...with everything good of this world that you symbolised!...and much more: you were you are and you will be the glue that holds the people that had had the luck and the honour to have ‘bumped into you’...Kasper!...or how you preferred to be called sometimes: ...Gaspare!

Thanks for giving me the chance to be a better man!

Jane Higginson Glassco - Sydenham, Ontario

To have known Kasper has been a high light of my life....He was a special person so full of light and love, kindness, generosity and always lots of fun. There was wisdom and humility, gentleness and great strength. I first visited Pagora with my husband, John Glassco, in March of 1986. I was 7 months pregnant with our first child, and as much as it is quite a climb in the snow it was made so much easier, really made possible, by Kasper having packed the trail down with his snowshoes before we came, then pulling the sleigh with our bags....so that John could help me, carry Jennie, up the "mountain". I will never forget my wonderment arriving in the late afternoon chill into the front room with the fire blazing, feeling safe, warm, loved and knowing that this was a very special place. Thanks to Kasper's kindness we visited many March breaks with our 3 children, the dog and even the cat .......who all over the years were blessed with great skiing, eating , story telling and best of all friendship. Thank you Kasper. I love you/ we love you and we love you Ania and your family. Kasper came full circle when he met you Ania....the love of his life. Your children became his children, your home - his home and finally his country, your country, becomes his final resting place......Not so far from where it all began.

David Goldfield

To a great human being, wonderful family man and friend. May he rest in peace.

Mariusz Olbromski z Rodziną

Szanowna i Droga Aniu wraz z Rodziną! Przyjmij, proszę, wyrazy najgłębszego współczucia i żalu z powodu śmierci Kaspra, Twego Ukochanego Męża!

W mej pamięci i sercu śp.

Aniu Kochana, jestem myślami i sercem z Tobą i wszystkimi Bliskimi. Oby te chwile wspomnień i pożegnań ukoiły ból, dając nadzieję na spotkanie w lepszym czasie i lepszym miejscu.

Znałem Kaspra od wielu lat. Moje najdawniejsze wspomnienia pochodzą z lat 60, kiedy pomagałem mu podczas weekendów w budowie jego domu w Morin Heights. Pamiętam go jako człowieka gościnnego, smakosza, hojnego, ciekawego przełamywania wszelkich granic .

Serdecznie współczuję Ani, Tei, Malucie i reszcie rodziny. Niech spoczywa w pokoju.

Basia Milewska & family

Dear Ania and family,

Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of Kasper. Though my time spent with Kasper was brief, the impression he made on me will stay long in my memory. He was charming, witty, and so very generous and kind. He breathed at once levity and depth into any conversation. And he loved--life, art, music, literature, nature, and most importantly his long longed-for soul mate, Ania, and their beautiful family. I am honored to have been in his presence and to have heard his captivating stories. Kasper represented the very best of his generation. We all have in Kasper a model of a life well-lived to which to aspire. Rest in peace, beautiful Kasper, and may those of you who grieve this loss find comfort in your family and friends who are holding you tightly here, so many, many miles away.

With all of our love, Basia Milewska and family

Kasper was a fine man with a charismatic personality - bigger than life. I have happy memories of visiting with him in Montreal, Rawdon, and Kracow. I will always associate him with the Siemienski family

Eileen Mahoney

My heartfelt condolences to all of you. Kasper was a truly remarkable man. I have very fond memories of happy times with him and Montreal friends at his house in Morin Heights and at crazy parties at the Siemienski’s in NDG. The last time I saw him was in 2009 when visiting Poland for Smyk’s wedding and when he welcomed us to Anna’s and his home in Krakow. Rest peacefully, dear Kasper.

Droga Pani Anno

Niech Pani przyjmie moje najserdeczniejsze kondolencje w związku z odejściem od nas nieocenionego Pana Kaspra,

dobroci i uczynności którego doświadczyłem osobiście.

W tych dniach smutku i pożegnania z Panem Kasprzem jestem razem z Panią.

Dr. Sabina Goralski

Very sad Mr Kasper passed away, he was always very nice to me. My name is Sabina Goralski, the reason I contacted Mr Kasper was that my grandmother was Anna Pawlikowska, Mr Kasper very kindly sent me explanations of how I could have been related to his family, what is astonishing for me now that I see his image, is the great resemblance of Mr Kasper to my brother Stanislaw. I never could establish for sure whether my grandmother was a relative of Mr Kasper. In 2017 I visited Lviv, sent Mr. Kasper photos from the places he told me his family had their ownerships. I shall remember him as a very kind gentleman, may He rest in peace.

Jamie from the Mountain

Dear Maluta and Family,

Today I had a candle burning next to a sculpture carved by Kasper that I have at my place.

Even as a shy child there was something that made me wander over alone to see what this mysterious man was up to. I have many memories of him that I will always hold fondly. The most vivid being of him entrusting me to drive his tractor down the bumpy road with him relaxing on the hood.

I understand the role he played in making Mont Stapleton a place of joy in the Millelire/ Bencsics family and he will always be a part of that.

My love and thoughts go out to all of his family.

Sincerely,

Jamie from the Mountain

Lisa Millelire

In 1958, as a very recent immigrant to Montreal, my father (Carlo) met Gaspare (the Italian version of Kasper that we always called him by) at the University of Montreal where they were both studying. They became friends and I can only imagine how wonderful it was for my father to meet someone who not only spoke Italian but had also lived in his home city of Rome.

After one FREEZING winter in Montreal my father and mother had decided life would be better back in sunny Rome. That following May 24th long weekend Gaspare invited my parents to Mount Stapleton in Morin Heights to see the house he was building. My father was awe struck by the beauty and wide open space just one hour north of the city. He couldn’t believe the determination, skill and talent Gaspare possessed that had propelled him to build a house without the aid of electricity, water or even a road!

My father had never swung a hammer but Gaspare’s enthusiasm and encouragement took hold – anything was possible! That summer my parents bought land on the mountain. Gaspare’s friendship, support and willingness to share his knowledge changed the course of my parents’ decision of where to settle; it would be Montreal.

I have such fond memories of the sound of hammers striking nails and of Gaspare and my father singing into the late hours of the night. The friendship Gaspare showed my father gave the next two generations of our family the indescribable joy of having a house on the mountain top.

We don’t often know how significantly our acts of kindness, generosity and friendship can affect others, but the gift Gaspare gave my family is crystal clear.

Our love and thoughts go out to all of his family.
