Wild life paintings require field drawings and especially lots of reference photos. Until 2004, I used an old Olympus film camera and prints like 4" x 6" as reference, which at best were very poor.
From 2004 onwards, I have started using a Canon rebel digital camera with appropriate lens' for taking reference photos and it has allowed me to capture superior quality images. As a result, I capture better details of my subjects which allow my paintings to be more detailed, closer to the reality then before.
