Welcome to GM Lab

GM Lab pursues researches in genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics and microbiomics, performing both in vitro and in silico analyses. 


Our laboratory is headed by Prof. Giovanni Malerba and is located at the University of Verona.

News!

March 2024: Congratulations to Caterina and Emilija who successfully defended their Master theses

November 2023: Martina has started her visiting research period at the Centre de Recherche en Cancérologie de Lyon (CRCL) in the "Epigenetics, micro enviroment and liver cancer group" (Levrero group) under the supervision of Dr. Massimiliano Cocca.

October 2023: Martina attended the 26th annual meeting of the Italian Society for Human Genetics (SIGU) and presented her work on methylation of CD14+ in multiple sclerosis.
Welcome to Luigi Casillo, who joined the GM Lab team as a new PhD student in Applied Life and Health Sciences in a new joint project opened with innovagenome s.r.l.

September 2023: Congratulations to Elena and Elisa who successfully defended their PhD theses!

August 2023: Mirko is officially a visiting PhD student in the  Department of Medicine (Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre) at the University of Cambridge, where he'll be working with Prof. Ken Smith group under the supervision of Dr. Paul Lyons.

June 2023: In collaboration with innovagenome S.r.l., we opened a position for a future PhD student. The project will focus on the development of Polygenic Risk Score in athletes. Check it out here

March 2023: Mirko is embarking on an exciting international research journey to Rotterdam (Erasmus MC), where he'll be working with Prof. Mohsen Ghanbari and his MolSysEpi group.

January 2023: Mirko was elected as President of RSG-Italy, Laura was appointed Social Media Representative in RSG-Italy, and Elisa joined RSG-Italy.

December 2022: Laura and Dramane attended the 17th Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Conference and presented our work regarding shotgun metagenomics sequencing and machine learning models in GWAS for complex traits.

October 2022: Welcome to Martina Gallinaro and N'Guessan Benedicte Sonia Koffi, our new PhD students in Applied Life and Health Sciences!

September 2022: Elena, Elisa and Mirko attended the 25th annual meeting of the Medical Genetics Italian Society (SIGU). Mirko and Elena presented our work on imputation for complex diseases and for the MHC region. Moreover, Mirko presented an overview on the BioVRPi project at the 7th European Student Council Symposium.
Congratulations to Laura, who brilliantly defended her PhD thesis titled "Achromobacter spp. in Cystic Fibrosis Patients: a Genomic-Based Approach to Unravel Microbe-Host Adaptation"
