Walk & Bike to School

Walk or Bike to School - Oct 12th

Our Walk to School day program is tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 12th starting at 8:30 am! We will be walking to school to encourage families to ditch the car and come walk to school with us. Greenbelt Elementary is fortunate that most of our families live within about a mile of the school. This is a great way to start the day, get some energy for the day, and start to practice healthy lifestyles. You will also get to walk with some of the GES staff and other parents. What a great way to meet your neighbors and a staff member you might not interact with regularly.

While we do allow bikes to come along, we prefer everyone walk. Students should have backpacks or the ability to carry their materials. Bring a bottle of water. Parents are welcome to walk with us, but that will mean walking back. All walking groups will have a designated leader and some may include local police or school staff/faculty.

There will be four separate organized groups walking to Greenbelt Elementary School from around the Greenbelt area:

  • Corner of Lastner Lane and RosewoodThis group will be led by Jill Connor and will leave at about 8:45 am.

  • Greenbelt Community Center (on the side closest to Greenbelt City Hall), 15 Crescent Road This group will be led by Eric McKenzie and depart at 8:30 am.

  • Spellman Overpass at Gardenway (behind the dental offices) - This group will be led by Charles Fulcher and Corita Waters and depart around 8:40. (If you live on the Greenbelt East side of the BW Parkway, please cross the Spellman Overpass to the Old Greenbelt side to meet this group. This group will merge with the Plateau place group which is led by Brooke Kenny.)

  • Plateau Place and Ridge Road – This group will be led by Brooke Kenny and will leave around 8:50 (when the Spellman Pass group meets them).

Chalk it up! - If anyone would like to come back after pick up and draw messages on the sidewalks of the school and the immediate area today that would be great! We will have some chalk and some eager hands ready to color today at 5 pm, today, Tuesday, Oct. 11th. Meet at the school entrance with clothes that can get dusty.
