HISTORY

SBT, a fairly new television broadcaster at the time, received a package of licensed anime from ZIV International in the early 1980's. Mário Lúcio de Freitas was assigned to compose new theme songs for all four shows, which included: King Arthur, Angel, Fables of the Green Forest, and Little Lulu (known as Luluzinha in Brazilian Portuguese). All four theme songs were eventually released under a compilation album as, "Turminha Zig Zag." It was released on vinyl record and cassette in 1983, which sold around 8,000 copies.

1983 Vinyl Record Release

In 1980, Brazilian Portuguese television aired the Little Lulu anime. While no video releases are known to exist, bits of this lost dub have appeared online in recent years.

On September 10, 2006, Mário Lúcio de Freitas uploaded a low-quality rip of the ‘Luluzinha’ theme song on his YouTube channel, alongside the intro from the 90’s adaptation. The song itself was sped-up and shortened near the end. Five years later, he released the original Brazilian Portuguese opening of Little Lulu, along with Angel on December 25, 2011. Freitas replaced the original audio with the masters of the songs. According to a 2012 interview, Frietas obtained the masters of the songs from RCA, the company who originally released the album.

Snippets from the 2011 upload

The opening contains children happily singing the theme song, along with some dialogue from Lulu and Tubby. The opening itself primarily uses footage from the English intro and the first episode.

On Mário Lúcio de Freitas’ website, a full version of the Brazilian Portuguese opening can be found in the “MP3 Collection” section. (Link provided below)

The only snippet of the Brazilian Portuguese dub (besides the opening) is a short clip of the ninth episode from ‘Chinorapper2010,’ uploaded on November 13, 2011. In some parts of the clip, text shows up for short periods of time.
