What is Family Promise?

HISTORY:  Family Promise of Odessa is a non-profit agency that partners with 9-10 churches  and approximately 200 volunteers to provide shelter, food, necessities and support services to homeless families with children.  Families receive services and training that assists them in obtaining sustainable housing, income and stability.  Families stay at church buildings and church members provide food and encouragement to the families.  Through community partnerships,  FPO provides transportation costs, child care, referrals to social service agencies, assessments and referrals to jobs.  A day facility provides a place for the adults to learn to look for jobs, to learn budgeting and financial management and other life skills.  The partnerships with churches and social services allows FPO to provide services at about one third the cost of traditional shelters.   FPO seeks to help people gain their independence, while still retaining dignity and self respect.

NOTE:  Due to the pandemic, FPO is serving as a "static center," where families spend the night at the FPO Center, in lieu of overnight stays in church buildings.

Services we offer include lodging at our center, food, transportation, clothing and other necessities for guests after they are accepted into our program. Families may stay in our program for up to a year, while they work to trainsition into homes of their own.
