About the Churches

The Odessa Church of Christ that exists today was founded in 1893 when the property at the intersection of 4th and Otway streets was purchased.  The original building was severely damaged by a coal stove fire in 1963, forcing worship to take place at Jones Funeral Home for a short time.  An addition to the original building was built in 1969, adding classrooms and a kitchen.  In 1999, construction was completed on the current main building where we worship.  In 2017, the original building was demolished, making way for the construction of a multi-purpose building, which was completed in 2020.  This facility includes a fellowship hall, kitchen and four classrooms.  This facility was built on the site of the original property.

Our church is multi-generational and focused on edifying God and, as our Mission statement says, “The Odessa Church of Christ exists to shine the light and love of Christ to each other, our community, and the world.”  Some of the more obvious ways we seek to fulfill this mission include our annual Christmas Store in December, where we serve dozens of families in our community with an opportunity for children to buy Christmas gifts for their family.  Every Halloween we put on a community Trunk or Treat and Hot Dog Dinner.  We partner with other churches in town for the I Love Odessa service weekend.  We are a member of the Odessa Faith Alliance, which hosts special community worship services and consistently helps members of the community escape from financial emergencies.  Beyond these highlights, we also provide various youth programs, fellowship and fun opportunities and smaller service projects for our church family and the community.

All are welcome to check us out and join us as we seek to follow Christ and share his light and love with everyone!

First Christian Church is located at 224 W. Dryden and holds in-person worship each Sunday morning at 10 a.m.  Recordings of the services can be found on the FCCODMO Communication Group Facebook page managed by Board Chair, Tim Baggs.  Odessa FCC was founded in 1879 when the Greenton and Mt. Hope congregations blended into the Odessa congregation after the towns moved nearer the railroad.  The current church was dedicated on Nov. 21, 1926, and an addition, which includes an elevator, was dedicated in 1995.  Odessa FCC has an active Christian Women's Fellowship group that meets monthly.  The most popular outreach activity is the annual Car Show held during Puddle Jumper Days which funds numerous community projects as well as those specific to the church.  Odessa FCC is an inclusive church that welcomes ALL to worship with us.  Our identity statement reads, "We are imperfect people trying our best to serve others, love Jesus and are hopeful about God's possibilities for all."

First Baptist Church of Mayview is a Southern Baptist Church that was founded in 1842.  It moved to its current building in 1888.  The church meets several times a week, living for Christ and sharing the Gospel with Mayview and the surrounding area.

The original Odessa Methodist Church was founded in 1880 and has been at the current location of 1st and Dryden since our first building was erected in 1882.  Surviving several name changes, fires, World Wars, a tornado and a couple pandemics, we still stand tall to represent our faith.   At Odessa First United Church, we believe that in a world that often seems cold and divided, God is the common denominator that holds us together. We can have different opinions about things but still serve God together. We believe we are better together. We also believe that EVERY person has value and purpose. For the things we don’t see eye to eye on, we allow love to fill the space so that we can simply be the church.  We share that love by participating in many outreach community programs such as Baby Grace, Back Snack Program, Narcotics Anonymous, Medina Clinic, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, GED classes, WIC Program, Community Service Center, Clothes Closet and a host of national and international opportunities to serve.  Everyone is welcome to be a part of our worship, outreach and fellowship opportunities!  Please check us out at www.Odessa1umc.org or at Odessa First United Methodist Church on Facebook

Life Point Church exists to connect people to God, help them grow as a follower of Jesus Christ, and release them to go in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Rolling Meadows Christian Church exists to love and obey Jesus. We pursue this goal by preaching from the Bible, equipping Christians, reaching the lost, serving the needy, all while we prepare for His coming. In short, we want to love God and to live like it.

We are a rural church with a modern focus. Our worship music is a blend of hymns and contemporary music. We love the word of God and use it frequently. We truly are a family and when families get together it isn't about everything being perfect or going just right. It is about experiencing the love of Christ together.

The beginning of our church started Jan. 27, 1853. We were a Cumberland Presbyterian Church before we became First Presbyterian Church in Odessa, MO. We hosted a Spring Presbytery meeting April 1, 1883.  The pulpit chairs were a gift from Mrs. Lou Cobb for the new church and we still use them today. The first pastor was Rev. S. Finis King. We had about 25 to 30 members. In May 1906, the Cumberland Presbyterian Church combined with the Presbyterian Church USA. Our church was on the corner of Second and Dryden streets. The original land was donated by John C. Cobb. The church survived fires and wind storms over the years.

The land of the current location of our church is at 4266 HWY 131 was donated by the B.B. and Laura Barr family. We have a beautiful building and a wonderful gym where different events are held to support our community. We are a welcoming church who has an open mind and an adventurous spirit. We know no divisions of culture or class. We inspire courage for this life and hope for the life to come. We are a church to serve the living God. Please check us out at New Horizon Presbyterian Church on Facebook.

Zion Evangelical Kirche was organized in 1880 by a group of German immigrants that had settled in this area. The first church building was dedicated in 1881. In 1887 a parsonage was built. In 1905, the old church was torn down and a new church was built. A new parsonage was built in 1925 and continues to be used today. In 1957, the Evangelical and Reformed Synod joined with the Congregational Christian Church to become the United Church of Christ and the congregation changed their name to Zion United Church of Christ. A new addition was built to provide more spaces for Sunday School classes, an office for the pastor and secretary, rest rooms, a nursery, and a large meeting room was added in 1989.

The Zion UCC congregation has been active in many missions throughout its years.

Zion United Church of Christ of Mayview is a place for all people to worship and serve God.  It is a place for all people to grow in their faith. In 1884 the people of the community saw a great need for a church building, they wanted a place for Christians to go and worship. The nearest church was Blackwater Chapel UMC located on land needed to make expansion and develop 50 Highway. That church building was going to have to go. A meeting was held July 13, 1884, to organize a class led by Dr. CCWoods, presiding elder of the Lexington District and the Pastor of the Blackwater Church. A plot of ground was secured from Mr. Merrill Whitre for building and cemetery. On July 27, 1884 , records show that 14 days after deciding to build, the church was dedicated and named Woods Chapel in honor of Dr.CCWoods. Woods Chapel was known for large revivals, people traveling far and wide to attend. The church was raised and a new basement poured with inside restrooms and handicap features were added in1985. The morning of Oct. 10th, 2019, around 1:15 a.m., calls were received that the church was on fire and that the fire department was on the way. By the time we arrived around 1:45, the chimney and part of one wall was all that was left. The building burned extremely fast and was so hot nothing was left. The old church building, 135 years of memories, was smoldering with smoke as we met in the church yard, had service and decided we were going to rebuild. By Oct. 10th, of 2020, we dedicated the New building, Woods Chapel Church.
