Cell Phone

Introduction

Finally!! Your parents have decided that you can have a cell phone!

There's only one catch...you have to research different providers and then convince them that you're getting the best deal for their dollars.

Because you're anxious to use the phrase "Call me!," you get right to work!

Task

Your parents are expecting you to "compare apples to apples" as you make your case for the best cell phone plan. Therefore, you'll start by visiting various provider's websites to find the best prices on phones and calling plans. An organized table of this information will really impress them!

Next, you'll use your Math skills to write equations to represent the start-up costs of "getting connected" with each provider. To help you and your parents visualize the costs involved, you'll graph these equations.

Finally, you'll interpret your graphs to decide which is the best cell phone plan for your needs, and write a script to convince your parents that their money is being well-spent.

Part 1: The Research

What should you look for in a cell phone plan? Check out this article about cell phones and service.

Now create a table like the one shown below. You can make it in Word. Include enough rows in the table for all the cell phone providers you're considering.

Your Decision and The Script

Which cell phone provider and plan is best for you and why?

Write a script to accompany your graphs that will convince your parents that your decision is a good one.

Be sure to include the following information in your script...

  • the name of provider

  • the cost of the cell phone

  • the monthly plan rate and the plan's name

  • the number of minutes included in the plan

  • the cost of each additional minute

  • additional plan or phone features

  • at least three reasons why this is the best plan for you.
