Condor Babies

Memory Verse

Opener
When you were a baby, did
you know how to walk? Did you know how to run? Did it take you a while to
learn to walk and run? How long did it take? A day? Two days? Lots of days?
Did you give up or did you keep trying? Are you able to walk and run now?

Nature Notes
Did you know that baby
condor birds have the same problem learning to fly that you had learning to
walk and run? It’s true! Most baby birds hatch out of their eggs, grow
feathers and learn to fly rather quickly. Not condor baby birds, though! When
condor babies hatch, they begin to grow feathers, just like other birds. The
mommy and daddy condor birds feed and take care of them. After about 6
months, the babies will begin trying to fly. They try and try and try, but
each time they fall, fall, fall. Mommy and daddy condor try to help and
encourage the baby condor. Still, it takes the baby condor a lot of effort
and a lot of work to learn how to fly. There’s a big word we use for a lot of
hard work and effort. It’s called perseverance.

Spiritual Connection
The baby condor must have a
lot of perseverance to learn to fly. When you were a baby, you had to have a
lot of perseverance to learn to walk and run. Now that you are older, you
will need a lot of perseverance to make good choices, to do what is right –
to become more and more like Jesus. You will need lots of encouragement to
make good choice and to do what’s right – just like the little condor birds
needed encouragement to fly. You will need lots of help to make good choices
and to do what’s right, just like when you were a baby learning to walk and
run.

Closure
Who can give you the
encouragement you’ll need to persevere in making good choices? Who can give
you the help you’ll need to persevere in doing what is right?
Did you know that Jesus has
promised to help you? He wants to help you persevere in doing what is right.
He wants to help you make good choices.
All you have to do is ask
Him for help. All you have to do is pray for His help, and He will help you.
