Start time is dawn to dusk. After registering at the Hampton Inn, 5K walkers must drive about 2 miles for their start location. 10K starts from hotel. The main feature of this walk is the Haines Shoe House. Built in 1948, by "Colonel" Mahlon N. Haines, known as the "Shoe Wizard of York"

1550 Mount Zion Rd, York, PA 17402 (717) 840-1500 From I-83: (S take EXIT 21)-(N take EXIT 21A), Rt 30 E to Mt Zion Exit, left to Mt Zion. 5/10 mile to hotel, on left. From Lancaster: Rt 30 W to Mt Zion, Rt 24 Exit, turn right at light. Hotel on left 3/10 mile.

Summer Hours for Shoe House-Jun, Jul & Aug W-Sun 11am-4pm; Fall Hours-Sep & Oct Sat & Sun-11am-4pm; Winter & Spring-Nov-May hours by appointment. Shoe House (717)840-8339. Discounts for Volksmarchers for tour of house $4. The Shoe House is a boot shaped wood frame structure covered with wire lath and coated with a cement stucco. It measures 48 ft long, 17 feet wide, and 25 feet high. The interior consists of five different levels and contains three bedrooms, two baths, a kitchen and living room. This walk is through residential areas and business areas in E York. The main attraction on this walk is the Haines Shoe House, which is a registered Historic Landmark of York County, PA. It is in the process of being listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
