Our baby boy, Hudson Arthur Crowley, was welcomed into the world at 8:01am on October 31st, 2011. He was 7lbs4oz and 21inches long.
During our birth we worked together as a family to bring Hudson into the world. It was a time when I drew immensely on my strength and flexibility from my Yoga practice; it was a time of great effort and great love. One part I remember in particular was using the deep resonating "om" sound for several hours through each contraction. Lucas and I would make the sound together to get me through the contraction and in between I would breath. There were of course moments where I lost my breath due to the shear intensity of the process, but like in any Yoga practice we are constantly reminded to 'come back to the breath.' Time and time again I did just that.
In his first week of life he demonstrated to me all the qualities I had hoped to give to him during pregnancy. In Yoga philosophy there is an understanding that the mother can intend her energy toward her baby in the form of ojas, or gifts,  for her child. Hudson showed incredible strength, bravery, trust, patience, and grace. He was calm, peaceful and full of love. His character was a reminder to us all.
My mental and emotional strength gained immensely through the practice of mindfullness and yoga, restorative yoga in particular, helped me through a beautiful but tough labor and 4 nights of our son being in the neonatal special care nursery at the hospital. Now nearly 10 weeks later, we are all still madly in love as a new little family, and enjoying our baby boy. Click on the 3 attachments below to see pictures of Hudson during his first week of life. I am in absolute awe of my sweet son.
"Oh sweet bliss; that magical time when you first greet the flesh of your flesh and the bones of your bones. Savor the moment, as it will forever be etched in you entire being."
