Place in History - The legacy of John Cena is one that will be hotly debated for decades to come similar to that of Hulk Hogan’s a generation ago.  He is, without question, the face of the WWE and has been since around 2005.  That also means that John Cena is the face of a company that while very successful financially is not held in high regard by everyone.  The WWE shifted away from being an edgy and violent product to being a “PG” one with Cena as their flag-bearer.  John Cena himself has been inseparably tied to this change as his once gritty freestyle rap promos have been replaced by innocuous and silly overly scripted ones.  As a result of his central role in this shift, he has been vilified by those fans that disdain the WWE’s softened and often uninspired approach to pro-wrestling.  Although the vitriol toward him and the brand are loud, John Cena’s star power and drawing power are undeniable.  He is a genuine Hall of Famer.  Conversely, his in-ring ability has its limitations.  He can look like a competent wrestler with exceptional charisma and presence or he can look like a clumsy musclehead.  Cena has been able to overcome most of his shortcomings through unprecedented hard work and dedication.  He does a lot of charity work and PR for the company, while maintaining an incredible physique and energy level.  Although a polarizing character, John Cena is definitely the biggest pro-wrestling star that has come up since the business changed dramatically in 2001.
