Volunteer IT Buddies Wanted

The Government is developing its ‘Digital by Default’ strategy which means that more and more of its services will be provided on-line.

As a large proportion of the population does not have access to, or the skills required to use the internet, there is a danger that many people will have difficulty in dealing with on line services.

To help overcome this barrier, West Lothian Council is seeking to recruit a group of Volunteer IT Buddies who will be located in council premises throughout West Lothian, to provide support to customers in accessing and using on line services.

Volunteers will :

Support clients to register for email accounts

Assist customers to access, register for and use on-line services such as benefit claims and the Universal Jobmatch website

Provide basic IT and problem solving advice to support customers using on line services

Identify and refer clients who may require additional support from Council Services, such as Adult Basic Education, Community Learning & Development and the Advice Shop

Maintain accurate records regarding the numbers of clients attending sessions and the nature of the support provided

Adhere to Council policies including client confidentiality, data security and protection of vulnerable groups
