Local History Speakers

Stephen Roberts

Anything at all to do with the history and landscape of Wirral from the Triassic to the 21st Century. I can do the whole thing as an overview or pick bits out and go into more depth as required. This is all based on primary research and can be illustrated in various ways. I can focus particularly on people or particularly on the landscape. I am very happy to discuss requirements and am open to new challenges.

In addition, I have some specialist or more localised topics:

The old parish of West Kirby c.1500 to 1900: social and economic history using primary sources

The fishermen of Hoylake c.1650 to 1950 again based on primary sources and genealogy

The West Kirby area during WWI with special reference to the people recorded on the Grange Hill Memorial.

In relation to my PhD research, I will, in due course, also be able to talk about Wirral during WWI. My knowledge of this is growing all the time, so will be happy to share what I have.

I can also talk about the Slave Trade and or the British Empire and their connections with the north-west of England.

Weekends and school holidays are the most suitable times for me but, at a push, other times are possible.
