New Research & Conservation Priorities

For a surprising number of wild pig species we remain in the dark about a great number of issues. This includes:

  • The taxonomy of wild pigs, with several new pig species remaining to be described (see here)
  • The ecology of only a few wild pig species is reasonably well known, but the majority of them, including several highly endangered species, remain largely unstudied. 
  • There is an urgent need to better understand the threats to different pig species to develop an insight about how these threats could be alleviated.
