Research indicates that by the time they get to kindergarten, low-income children have heard 15 million words and have experienced only 25 hours of one-on-one reading time, while middle-income children have heard 55 million words and have experienced 1700 hours of one-one-reading time.  (Hart and Risley, and the Packard/MacArthur Foundation).  The Waltham Family School is working to bridge the gap!
