SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

All targets must have a suitable backstop or a safe fall out zone behind.

There must be NO OBSTRUCTIONS that may cause dangerous ricochets in the shooters line of sight from the firing point within 8 yards of the rifle muzzle.

When setting out the shooting lanes, ensure other lanes do not encroach on the line of sight within 45 degrees either side of the target on that lane.

Try to keep lanes/pegs either in a straight line or in a horseshoe shape, firing outwards and avoid forward pegs, which could endanger one shooter from another shooter standing behind on a neighbouring peg.

Ensure your firing lines are clearly defined.

The firing line must not be more than 1ft forwards of the peg at the peg itself & for 3ft either side of the peg.

Rope or barrier off any routes, which could permit shooters or other persons to enter into the firing/fallout zones. Consider areas suitable for spectators to view from if possible.

Check there is no broken glass, brambles, insect nests or other such hazardous materials around.

COURSE

The course of fire will consist of 30 targets with one firing point for each target

All shooting points & targets must be clearly marked No’s 1 to 30 inclusive.

All Targets must be painted with either Yellow or White faceplates with Black Hit zones.

Please ensure that the positional & mini kill targets are equally spread throughout the course.

All non-positional targets must be able to be shot from at least the Prone & Kneeling position.

Standing & Kneeling shots should provide a stable area & level footing around the peg/support, no slopes or humps.

Standing & Kneeling shots must be able to be taken from either side of the Peg/Support, with the full faceplate visible for all heights of shooters.

When setting out courses you must place targets and pegs to allow for both right handed, left handed and Junior shooters taking part in the event.

26 Wooden pegs of at least 1.5" round/square should be used. All pegs should be clearly visible, project at least 300mm (12”) above the ground & be firmly fixed in the ground. Pegs should not be used for the supported shots as the support is classed as the peg & should be numbered accordingly. The pegs for un-supported shots should be 4" high above the ground.

Standing shots should have a “Standing” sign positioned at the peg, these signs should be clearly visible by a shooter standing at the peg.

Kneeling shots should have a “Kneeling or Standing” sign positioned at the peg, these signs should be clearly visible by a shooter standing at the peg.

ELEVATED SHOTS

All elevated shots (more than 12ft above the horizontal plane of the peg) must have a peg of at least 18” tall.

Elevated shots with kill zones below 35mm must be no closer than 20yds

UN-SUPPORTED SHOTS

There must be 1 x un-supported Standing shot with a hit zone of 35-45mm at 8-35yds

There must be 1 x un-supported Kneeling shot with a hit zone of 35-45mm at 8-35yds

Un-supported positional shots will be denoted by the use of a 4" high peg.

The un-supported kneeler should not be placed at an extreme angle (no more than 30degrees).

SUPPORTED SHOTS

There must be 2 x supported standing shots with hit zones of either 35-45mm at 8-35yds, or 25mm at 8-30yds.

The support on the supported standers must be of sufficient height to cater for tall shooters (6ft+)

There must be 2 x supported kneeling shots with hit zones of 25mm at 8-30yds or 35-45mm at 8-40yds

Any supported kneeling shots over 35yds MUST have a support to allow a standing shot to be taken, for shots of 35yds or under this is not a requirement as it’s not always possible on some courses.

All supported shots must have the target number on the support, this designates the object that must be used as a support, no peg should be used for these shots.

Please ensure that the supports used are substantial enough not to move too much in the wind or move during the course of fire as this will be highlighted in the course vetting & they will need altering.

PRONE ONLY

There must be 3 x Prone ONLY shots using any UKAHFT hit zone size, there must be a “Prone only” sign in place at the peg

MINI KILLS

There should be 4 - 6 x 15mm hit zone targets (this covers 15-19mm kill sizes)

There should be 6 - 8 x 25mm targets, (this covers 20-34mm kill sizes) this is in addition to any 25mm targets used as supported positional lanes.

To ensure balanced courses there must be at least 2x20mm kills (8-30yds) & no more than 3x25mm kills over 35yds.

OFF THE PEG SHOTS

There can be upto 4x “off the peg” shots using 35-45mm hit zones where at least 50% of the kill must be visible from 6" up the peg & 100% visible no more than 2ft from the peg.

TARGET DISTANCES

(These distances do not apply to Standing, Kneeling & Targets which are specified above)

          15-19mm Hit zone Targets from 13-25yds.

          20-24mm Hit zone Targets from 8-30yds.

          25-34mm Hit zone Targets from 8-40yds.

          35-45mm Hit zone Targets from 8-45yds.

Please note that target kills do not need to be round, they will however be judged on the max size of round rod that can fitted into the kill, for example a 15mm square kill would be classed as a 15mm shot if a 15mm diameter rod can be inserted through the kill.

FACEPLATES SIZES

For kneeling & standing shots there must be at least 25mm of faceplate around the hit zone

All other targets must have at least 10mm of faceplate around the hit zone.
