WELCOME to the site of UCyMSAD, a research project funded by the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation through the 2008 National Research Call, which is in turn funded by the Republic of Cyprus and the European Union's Regional Structural Funds.

The project's research partners are:

Project Summary

Cyprus, due to its geographical position and morphology (island) is among the countries that face serious water shortages. Among the most important aspects of addressing the problem of water shortage is the better management of urban water supply networks (UWDN) so as to reduce water losses in the networks. This research project aims:
  • The creation of a mathematical model to study UWDN in Cyprus. The developed tool should address pipeline 'repair-or-replace' decisions and prioretize work in UWDN based on risk-of-failure and financial parameters, through the use of a variety of tools (statistical analysis, survival analysis), artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic, graph theory, and life cycle costing).
  • The correlation between intermittent water supply and subsequent leakage.
  • The use of an integrated wireless sensor network (WSN) for early leakage detection, through a real-life pilot implementation.
  • The development of related software based on Geographic Information System (GIS) and database managemetn systems. The software will be used as a tool for analyzing information relating to water supply networks in Cyprus.

A more detailed description of the Work Packages involved, relevant deliverables and reports, as well as information on related research projects undertaken by the research partners and their findings can be found in the rest of the web tabs on this web-page.
