Photography

Here in the Helderberg we are blessed to live in one of the most beautiful environments in the world with thousands of photographic opportunities all around us.  It's very easy to take out a phone and take a picture of a view, a person or an event.  And, much of the time, that's more than adequate for the purpose. But there is a joy in creating a photograph that is beyond that "point-and-shoot" style of photography.

Good photography is the ability to see an interesting photograph and then to capture it using the elements of good composition, lighting, exposure and post-production techniques as appropriate.

In the photography group  we will learn from each other as we go along, there is guidance and tuition on basic photographic skills and techniques allied with lots of group discussion, practical sessions and constructive critical feedback on members' photographs.

We use a combination of social media platforms and combined photographic outings to local venues and events, usually on the second Thursday of each month.  These provide the theme which group members will work on to produce their photographs for a monthly competition.

Any member of U3A Helderberg is welcome regardless of photographic ability or experience.  Photographic equipment can range from a smartphone to a digital SLR - photography is about the eye, not the lens!
