Backpacking on the Chattooga River. The Scouts camped two nights in the Ellicott Rock Wilderness that straddles the 15,000-acre Chattooga Wild and Scenic River corridor. What a great trip. They visited three water falls, King Creek Falls, Spoon Auger Falls and Issaqueena Falls. They hike to the Walhalla SC - State Fish Hatchery. In addition explored an incomplete railroad tunnel bored into Stumphouse Mountain during the 1850s.

Spelunking
August 2006
Flat Rock NC
BonClarken campgrounds were full of surprises - In addition to spelunking, there was boating, Frisbee Golf, playing in the swimming pool and Basketball in a Gymnasium. It wasn't all play the scouts did do a service project by washing vehicles for the BonClarken complex.
Lowman Home
August 2006
The troop visited the Lowman Home, demonstrated Dutch oven cooking and played bingo with some of the residents. True, this was an activity for citizenship and communication merit badges, but for the scouts that attended it was truly a very worthwhile good turn.
"The good turn will educate the boy out of the groove of selfishness."

Summer Camp
2006
Camp Raven Knob
A great week at a beautiful location near Mount Airy, North Carolina. The scouts had a terrific time and worked very hard. The troops had 40 boys attending and they earned 127 merit badges before leaving camp.

Backpacking
April 2006 Map this location
Not for the weak - This was a challenging hike through the foothills of the Appalachians. For this trip we divided into two groups. One group spent the weekend at Table Rock state park. The other group hiked for over ten hours, changing elevation over 2000ft with some grades up to 30%. Whether was difficult, with violent thunderstorms and rain most of the first day. When the weather cleared it was beautiful. The trip really
demonstrated the scout spirit and the desire to accomplish goals.
Vipers at Lake Monticello
February 2006 Map this location
Vipers had a very cold, damp weekend at Lake Monticello. They learned a lot as the scouts use their skills to work as a team. The Viper patrol was made up of first year scouts. This trip demonstrated how much they had learned from April 2005 when the patrol was formed. In April, 2006 the Viper patrol was retired and the scouts joined permanent patrols.
Cold Weather Backpacking
February 2006
Big Creek, North Carolina - Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
This was a beautiful hike along the creek. The scouts hiked into the back country over five miles. Camping overnight and awakening to freezing temperatures. Yes, even their drinking water was icing. This was a great test to help develop high adventure scouting skills.
