Shell Festival T-Shirts
2018 Sanibel Shell Festival T-shirt Sales Benefit Grant and Scholarship Programs
This year the Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club invited its members to enter the “Design the 2018 Sanibel Shell Festival T-shirt Contest.” Club member Andrea Schopf, who resides in Lancaster, PA, created the winning design. Andrea is an avid shell collector and a graphic artist. She graduated from Bloomsburg University with a degree in fine art.
Andrea entered the Sanibel Shell Show for the first time in 2017, and her large seahorse created from shells won both a blue ribbon and the “People’s Choice Award” in the Artistic Division. In October, she entered her second shell show, the Philadelphia Shell Show. She entered four artistic categories, and for the first time, she entered a scientific category. She walked away with five first place ribbons and she won the “Most Outstanding Artistic Exhibit Award” in the hobbyist division.
Andrea’s design features shells that can be found on the beaches of Sanibel and Captiva. The ladies V-neck shirts are 100% cotton and come in aqua, coral and lavender. The unisex crewneck and the unisex V-neck shirts are 50% cotton and 50% polyester. They come in navy and gray. All the shirts sell for $15 each.
One hundred percent of the profits from the T-shirt sales, like the other income from the Sanibel Shell Show, are given out in the form of grants to marine science-related programs and scholarships to the Marine Science Departments of the University of South Florida and Florida Gulf Coast University.
