Post-Semester Catch-Up

posted May 7, 2012, 8:30 AM by The Colby Eight

Wow, it's been sooo long since the last post! My b. Obviously, a lot has happened in the past three months. We sang around campus on Valentine's Day serenading some lucky people with songs like Goodnight Sweetheart or the My Girl/Ignition (Remix)/My Humps mash up. Nothing says you're special like, "mama rollin' that body, got every man in here wishin'." Click here to watch the 8 sing one of its signature V-Day songs.

The 8 also sang during Colby's annual Dragball. This year "Dragball 3: Return of the Queen" was another success, following last year's amazing turnout and performances. The Colby 8 did not disappoint with two racy songs, like The Princes Papuli and Straight People, inspired by Randy Newman's Short People. The 8 has sung it's share of dragappella, but we've also sung for prospective students.

The admissions office had several days of admitted students' days on the hill, so the Colby 8 made sure to pop in and give the prospies, as we like to call them on the hill, a taste of Colby's a cappella scene. (Thanks for having us, Sandra and Janice!)

We also had an amazing surprise from two Colby alumni from the Class of 1963. Peter and Cy, both Colby 8ers (!!!), reconnected with the group. Peter emailed us about the group and sent an AWESOME pic from his days with the 8. Here's the pic:

Awesome, right?! Cy was able to pay us a visit and rehearse with us, too! Click here to watch the Colby 8 sing Mood Indigo with Cy!

And, of course, we had our end of the year concert! On Wednesday, April 25th, a ton of Colby 8 fans witnessed glory, and they loved it. Click here to watch videos of our concert! A HUGE thank you to all of our fans who came out to watch us. We really appreciate the support!

One love,
The 8

P.S. Here's a pic of the Colby 8 with Cy after the concert!

New Year, New Rage

posted Feb 2, 2012, 8:58 PM by The Colby Eight   [ updated Feb 2, 2012, 8:58 PM ]

Coming back from the slopes of Sugarloaf, the hutongs of Beijing, or the hardwood floors of Strider Theater, the 8 is back again and ready to take on a new semester full of many new promises. Last semester, we finished strong with our fall concert. The crowd was awesome as usual, and our set list worked perfectly to end the semester with a big bang. Couldn't make it to the concert? No problem! Click here to watch the videos!

We were also asked to sing at a reception for seniors that graduated in December. Teddy, this cutie from NYC, charmed the crowd with his high vocals and slick dance steps. All in all, the seniors, professors, and staff in attendance proved to be a receptive crowd to the likes of My Girl/My Humps/Ignition and You Make Me Feel Like Dancing.

At the annual Colby vs. Bowdoin hockey game, the 8 sang the USA National Anthem before the start of the game. Unfortunately, the bears came out with a win in the end, but the White Mules put up a worthy fight.

We will be having spring auditions VERY soon on Tuesday, February 7th. Make sure to stop by our table in Pulver on Tuesday, February 7th anytime between 12:00 to 1:30 to sign up for an audition slot! Also, make sure to pay close attention to our Facebook page ('like' it, if you haven't already!) for a unique opportunity to become an "honorary member" of the Colby 8. Details will be posted on Facebook and, for current Colby students, on the general announcements. Until next time, fellow friends and fans!

Clark University & Reunion

posted Nov 28, 2011, 10:23 PM by The Colby Eight   [ updated Nov 28, 2011, 10:24 PM ]

We had an awesome time performing with Clark University's Counterpoints at their annual Jambeezy. Along with the Counterpoints, we also had the opportunity to watch The Blend and the Conn Artists perform! All in all, a successful concert that also had all proceeds from donations and entrance fees go towards a local charity.

The very next day we trekked (okay, we drove) through the long roads of Cape Cod to find ourselves at a fellow Colby 8 alumnus' house for a little reunion! In attendance were current members of the group along with Colby 8 alumni: our amazing host, Logan '11, Nick '10, Austin '11, Raleigh '11, and Kevin '11. Highlights of the trip were the meatball and pasta dinner, a serious game of kick the can, some heartfelt conversations, and, of course, the many laughs we shared as we enjoyed each other's company.

Group shot of Colby 8 members current and alums!
Until next time, boys!

Obviously, a jam packed day like that wore some of us out!

The weekend ended with some serious rehearsing on Sunday as we prepare for our 2011 Fall Concert on Sunday, December 4th in Lorimer Chapel at 7PM! Join us for a great time!

Dinner with President Adams

posted Nov 12, 2011, 5:20 PM by The Colby Eight   [ updated Nov 12, 2011, 5:22 PM ]

On October 30th, we had the pleasure of visiting Colby's very own President Adams at his home. It was a great time to catch up with our adviser and to talk to him about current events at Colby. The dinner was fantastic and the evening rounded out with some great conversation. Here's a picture of the Colby 8 with President Adams at his home on campus.

Family Homecoming Weekend!

posted Oct 30, 2011, 2:02 PM by The Colby Eight

Wow, time has flown by here on the Hill. Most students have just finished midterms (phew!), and classes seem to be slowing down to a much more agreeable state. It seems that the last few parents on campus have left the Hill and students have now flocked the libraries to catch up on studying from the Family Homecoming/Halloween weekend. On Friday night, we had a 7PM concert and a 9PM concert. All of the a cappella groups on campus get together and put on a show for the parents every year during Family Homecoming Weekend. The audience was great as usual and we had such a wonderful time performing Help! by The Beatles and Kiss The Girl from the Little Mermaid Soundtrack...The Little Mermaid. Big SHOUT OUT to Daniel, our audience volunteer for the Kiss The Girl performances [he kissed the girl!], and to Cecilia and Fritha for being "the girl" for our 7PM and 9PM performances, respectively. All of the groups were on their game that night so the concerts were a huge success! If you have any videos from the concerts, please contact Ismael.

Spirit Week at Colby!

posted Oct 26, 2011, 7:44 PM by The Colby Eight

On Monday, October 24th, we joined the efforts of SGA to liven up Colby with some school spirit! We were able to kick off Spirit Week with our alma mater, Hail, Colby, Hail, followed by Help! by The Beatles. Other a cappella groups joined the cause and put on a show for the crowd in LoPo (Lower Programming space). Here's to a great spirit week! GO MULES!!!

A cappella sampler

posted Nov 13, 2009, 4:16 PM by The Colby Eight   [ updated Oct 11, 2011, 10:49 AM ]

The Colby 8 was back on campus this fall (what? summer's...gone?) a little earlier than usual for the a cappella sampler during first-year orientation. Recent graduates, Austin '11, Logan '11, and Raleigh '11, returned to campus to help us sing some soulful tunes to the like of Natural Woman (Aretha Franklin) and Love in this Club (Usher Feat. Young Jeezy) so maybe ONE soulful song.

We had a great time performing for the first-year students!...and the COOT leaders and CAs. Next up were auditions!

Above, you will see us accompany Austin '11 as he sings his heart out for his solo, Natural Woman. Cause you make me feel...
