Hyphesta reflects upon choices she has made in her life.

What lurks beyond life’s portals?
Sleep escapes the unsettled heart
After all is said and done,
when the verdict is in,
justice fights the battle
and the pure in heart fare to win

From one chamber to the next
you can’t change me and I not you
No choice, no turning back,
no compromises for the true
I wait for you, yeah, I wait for you

Open secret doors to the edge of night
Open secret doors to the abyss and let me inside

Passages of courage
have become my life’s theme
Is there a choice? It isn’t evident to me
The fork in the road isn’t even seen

Open secret doors to the edge of night
Open secret doors to the abyss and let me inside

Opening doors from one chamber to the next
I dare to dream…

A chamber of infinite doorways
Providence beckons me near
Looking backward I see
What’s gone is gone in the mist behind me…

Open secret doors to the edge of night
Open secret doors to the abyss and let me inside
Open secret doors to the edge of night
Open secret doors to the abyss and let me inside

COMMENTARY

This song originally appeared on the 1991 limited-release Storm at Sea. Michael's solo vocal line, "Opening doors from one chamber to the next, I dare to dream," was actually taken from the original four-track and transferred to digital for this release. Everything else was re-recorded.

This song began life as a poem by Li'Anne before Michael added music to it.

Originally there were two additional lines of lyrics after "...mist behind me," but Gina was having trouble with the phrasing so we just recorded everything else but those two lines. As we were working on the phrasing we decided that it sounded better without the additional lines.
