The Bluecopter was announced by Eurocopter (EADS) mid-2009 and was mainly intended as PoC (Technology demonstrator). Emphasis was to make maximum reductions in emissions and a Mercedes-Benz V-6 diesel engine was selected as baseline power plant, although the Bluecopter could also accept small turbine engines. A first aircraft was scheduled to fly in 2011 or 2012.
