The Choir sings at the Parish Eucharist (10.15am) and at Sung Evensong (6.30pm) which take place most weeks with occasional variations, Choral Evensong is sung on the last Sunday in each month.

2 or 3 times a year Choral Evensong is sung on Saturday Evenings either by the Choir or a visiting Choir. We welcome any requests from visiting Choirs to sing Choral Evensong on Saturdays throughout the year.

The Junior Choir:

For the first time in fifteen years, during a Sunday morning service in May 2012 we welcomed junior choristers back into the choir. It was a very special moment for us all and especially our Director of Music, John Horton, who has been working with the children for many months.

Since the re-introduction of the first group of junior choristers the top line (mixed boys and girls) has continued to grow with a number of new children having joined the Choir over recent weeks.

The trebles sing at the 10.15am Sunday morning Eucharist, all weddings at which a choir has been requested and at a number of other choral services throughout the year. Occasionally the trebles join the adults to sing at Choral Evensong on the last Sunday of each month during term time.

If you are interested in your child joining the choir, we ask that your child has a reasonably good reading ability.

St. George's Church, Stockport is fortunate enough to be able to pay each Chorister a small fee each month for their hard work and attendance at Choir practice and Sunday Services.

Being in the choir is a very big commitment to both the child and his/her parent(s) or guardian(s).

Thursdays evening: 6.30 - 7.30pm  (Rehearsal in the Choir Vestry).
Sunday morning: 9.45am-11.30am approx. (Rehearsal and Sunday AM Service).

Our junior choristers work towards the RSCM (Royal School of Church Music) Voice for Life Award Medal Scheme. This enables the juniors to learn how to read music, and all aspects of singing in a church choir. As a child progresses music can be a subject taken at school for GCSEs, A levels and in higher education. If you are interested in learning more about our Junior Choir, please contact John Horton, our Director of Music, or speak to him after a service. (Contact details below).

The Adult Choir:

The Adult Choir is made up of approx. 20 singers who provide music at the 10.15am and 6.30pm Sunday Services each week.

They include Sopranos, Altos/Countertenors, Tenors and Basses who sing a wide variety of music from early plainsong through to modern worship songs.

Being a member of St. George's Choir offers a wonderful opportunity to sing in the fantastic space that is St. George's Church, Stockport, with a friendly group of like-minded people under the direction of John Horton.  Like the Junior Choristers, numbers are steadily growing and have been doing so for some time. Choristers are proud of their hard work and dedication, which means that the choir has always performed to a good standard and has played a vital part in the Church's history over many years.
