Ketton Bowls Club is looking forward to celebrating its 45th anniversary season with two teams in the First Division of the Stamford & District League - Kestrels joining the Kingfishers having been promoted from in the second tier - while the Kites challenge for promotion from the third.

Main focus for the year as well as improving the club's competitiveness, is to raise funds towards a new clubhouse, following a generous contribution of £4,000 from the village's Whitebread Trust and a further £500 from the Rutland Trust.

Members are working hard on three bowls galas as well as dances, quizzes and three Bank Holiday car boots sales (May 6 & 27 & August 26).

Club President Ron Tilley also aims to boost further cash from an invitation President's Day on July 7, while club member Christine Ford stages her own Northants Women's Bowling Federation President's Day on June 2 and hosts county matches against North Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk at Ketton, respectively on June 12, 19 & 26.

The club's green continues to enjoy much refurbishment thanks to the efforts of its members and in particular professional greenkeeper Mark Hammond. It will host a fours gala on July 3, a new pairs tournament on July 31 and a triples gala under Federation rules on August 28

Ketton players will also compete in the Peterborough Over 60 and weekend leagues
and Northants Federation competitions, the club having won three titles last season while sporting British Sugar-sponsored shirts.

Continuing its regular improver sessions under the expert eye of qualified coach John Little, the club invites bowlers from any local club to attend to take advantage of this unique service, appreciating that the sport needs to be sustained wherever it is played. Please contact the club secretary to make an appointment.
