“Upon our children - how they are taught - rests the fate - or fortune - of tomorrow's world.”
The Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) is an International Religious Organization, founded by St. John Bosco to serve youngsters, especially those who are poor and marginalized through works of charity. Shelter Don Bosco is a part of the Don Bosco Group of organizations and started in 1987 to work with the abandoned and destitute children of Mumbai city. Since then, in the process of serving them, Shelter Don Bosco has developed programmes like Street Contact, A Drop-In Centre, A 24-Hour Open House, A Residential Home For 125 Children, Vocational Training, A Drug De-Addiction And Therapeutic Community, A Research Centre, Study Classes, A Monthly Mela.
As a part of our attempt to raise awareness about the Cause of children on and off the Streets and awareness about this institution, which has been picking up boys from the street, some in a half-drugged state, and giving them a reason to live. Empowering them with education and arming them with the confidence to live life with dignity. The goal behind this Drive have given birth to Mission Shikshan which is to get people to come together and create awareness to help educate the marginalized children of our society. The mission is to raise a Corpus through various activities. This Corpus is to be used for the numerous projects of Shelter Don Bosco. The vision is to carry the torch of learning to all levels of the society nationwide.
Last year as part of Our project Mission Shikshan: Let’s Unite to Educate the Less Fortunate, Shelter Don Bosco organized a concert called A PRIVILEGE... to light the lamp of learning with eminent personalities like Boman Irani, Mona Singh, Longinus (Choreographer of Slum Dog Millionaire Fame) and other artistes performed at this event for free... All our performers held audiences in trance at the event. This year too we want to present “Johnny Lever Show in Aid of Street Children”, an eye opener for the privileged to help gift a child with Education helping him become a productive citizen of the nation. We welcome support from you so that Shelter Don Bosco can continue to make a difference in the rehabilitation process of the rootless and the roofless children on and off the streets of Mumbai City. The programme will include performances by the children of Shelter Don Bosco and Johnny Lever’s Team who are contributing their talent for this good cause.
