• 1. Press ESC + + POWER. The screen displays a yellow exclamation point (!).

  2. Press CTRL + D to begin dev mode, then ENTER. The screen displays a red exclamation point.

  3. Press CTRL + D, then ENTER. The Chromebook deletes its local data, returning to its initial state. The deletion takes approximately 15 minutes.

  4. When the transaction completes, press the spacebar, then press ENTER to return to verified mode.

Use the Chromebook Recovery Utility

To quickly create recovery media in case you need to recover your Chromebook, use the Chromebook Recovery Utility.

Before you start

Before using the utility, make sure that you have:

• • A flash drive or other storage media that can hold at least 4GB (that you don't mind clearing).

  • A Chromebook, Windows, or Mac computer with administrative rights. (Look for Windows and Mac support in Chrome versions M36 and M37.)

Create recovery media

To create the recovery media, follow the steps below.

Identify your Chromebook

• 1. Type in the model number of your Chromebook to get the correct recovery image. You can find the model number on the recovery screen if your Chromebook isn't starting up.

  2. Click the Continue button.

Insert your USB flash drive or SD card

• 1. Insert the storage media into an open port on your Chromebook, and the tool will automatically detect the media.

  2. Use the dropdown menu to select the appropriate storage media.

  3. Click the Continue button.
