SBI PENSIONERS' ASSOCIATION,BHOPAL CIRCLE

REGN.NO. 6702

**************************************************************

SBI Pensioners' association was formed in the 1977 to look after the welfare of the pensioners of State Bank of India

in Bhopal Circle with its headquarters at Indore.

The pioneer of the Pensioners' Movement in SBI was late Shri M.M. Budhiraja from Mumbai (the then Bombay)who

tried to seek justice from the Bank for several years since 1967 for revising the meagre pension paid to pensioners.

He made an attempt to form an Association in 1972 but could not get much support from pensioners at that time.

He finally settled down at Delhi and later passed away.

Similar attempts were made in Ahmedabad in the year 1973 and in Pune in the year 1974. With headquarter in Pune

in the dynamic leadership of Late Shri L.N. Pambalkar, the membership started growing. The small unit of pensioners started by Shri Budhiraja stopped functioning in 1976-77 and most of its members joined Pune Association. In 1979, the name was changed to SBI Pensioners' Association (Bombay Circle), Pune. By then, the movement fostered more such Associations at Circle levels with Bhopal Circle in 1977 and Madras Circle in 1984.By 1990, Pensioners' Associations were functioning in all Circles except North-Eastern Circle where it was formed in 1997.With Kerala Circle coming in existence, the Association was formed there on 3rd March,2001.

Now, there are Pensioners' Associations in all the fourteen Circles of the Bank.

All these Associations are affiliated to the apex body "The Federation of SBI Pensioners' Associations of India" which was formed on 23.09.1984 with headquarter at Delhi. Shri S.D. Verma was elected as first President and the first Annual General Meeting

was held at Madras (now Chennai) on 19th and 20th, February, 1985.

The headquarter of the Federation keeps shifting and since 2015, it is functioning from Hyderabad with Shri R.N.Banerjee as President (Kolkata) and Shri Ramesh Babu as General Secretary.(Hyderabad) As stated above, Pensioners' Association was started in Bhopal Circle in 1977 with the following broad objectives :-

(i) To organise and foster the spirit of co-operation and fellowship amongst the pensioners of State Bank of India.

(ii) To secure and protect the rights and privileges and to promote the interest and welfare of all the pensioners by

legitimate and constitutional means.

And

(iii) To secure for the benefit of Pensioners, financial, medical and all kind of reliefs.
