Week 34 - Fri 20 Aug
Welcome to the RPM Seven Day Soundtrack, week ending Friday 20th August 2021. More treats from the turntables... or possibly delectable downloads even? Who knows? Over to...
"Here's my 3 for the week."
Take A Look Around performed by The Temptations - "This is a great live version of one of 64 singles I bought last weekend. The outfits are understated compared to some of their contemporaries but the stage moves are slick and the live vocals sublime . Click the second link if you prefer better quality on the vocals."
Take A Heart performed by Sorrows - "Another one of the bunch I bought.
"...and I noticed that the familiar sounding lead of the Sorrows was none other than..."
We Whisper by Widek -
"Hi RPMers. Hope you all have had a good week . Here’s my picks. All from Oz this week."
"Hi RPMers, Things must be getting back to normal.... two gigs in one week! That hasn't happened for a long, long time. Firstly, Monday at The Princess Theatre, Hunstanton to see The Manfreds on their Jazz, Blues and Hits Tour. Paul Jones (79) can still hit the high notes with ease; a true entertainer. On Thursday it was Benjamin Zephania And The Revolutionary Minds at Norwich Arts Centre. Wow! Awesome....I can already see this man featuring in at least three of my End-Of -Year lists.
Watermelon Man by Manfred Mann -
Cool Down by Benjamin Zephania -
Comrade Z by Devotchka -
"Three tracks this week from the sixties (no surprises there!!) which feature groups attempting to expand rock music's instrumental palette."
There's Gonna Be a Storm by Left Banke- (from 'Left Banke Too' US only album, released November 1968. This from ' And suddenly it's...' released 1983. Bam Caruso label)
Tiny Goddess by Nirvana - (7" single released July 1967. Island label)
Catherine's Wheel by Denny Laine (and the Electric String Band) - (7" single, b-side to 'Too much in Love' released January 1968. Deram label)
Mother Earth by Brother Resistance -
Dancin Shoes by Brother Resistance -
"A slightly different slant to my selection this week. I've been re-upholstering some dining chairs Jackie was given and, as the only thing to get me through the tedium of fixing foam and fabric to chair frames is some killer tunes, I got out the laptop and fired up my Folk in a Field main stage between bands playlist. These three followed each other and I just loved how the different styles and eras sat against each other."
'Til Next Time...
