Welcome to Third Grade

Sep. 5, 2017

Welcome to the new school year 2017-2018!

My name is Mrs. Lee and I will be your child’s third grade math and science teacher in room 206!

Third grade is a challenging year for students in many ways. It is a year of important transitions, and a time when acquisition of new skills is accelerated. Students will take the MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) tests which are diagnostic and computerized adaptive assessments in reading and math in the winter and spring.

In math, it is crucial that they practice their basic math facts daily, since a lot of what they will learn in third grade will build on these foundational skills (adding and subtracting within 1,000). The first unit in science is on the structures of life, in which we begin by studying seeds.

It is very important that students come to school everyday on time, ready to learn, with HW completed.

Please be sure to check their agenda daily. If your child is absent, please make sure he/she brings an excuse note upon return to school. Progress reports (both academic and social/emotional) will be sent home on a regular basis, so please be sure to look over them carefully.

Third graders have recess and lunch from 11:25-12:10.

They have P.E./Art from 2:30-3:30 daily, so please make sure students come to school wearing the appropriate clothes and shoes.

Various forms will be sent home with students throughout the week, so please be sure to return them to school as soon as possible.  I am also sending home a survey for you to complete.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to send a note to school with your child, email me, or call the school and leave a message. My email address is mlee3@cps.edu

I look forward to meeting and working with you!
