About Us

The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society was formed in 1923 to preserve and promote a dance form that was in danger of dying out after WW1, swamped by the modern trends of jazz and ballroom dancing.  It now has branches throughout the world.  Their website contains much additional information, and has a 'branch finder' so that wherever you are , or are visiting, you can find a Scottish country dance group in the area - always pack your dancing shoes!

Richmond (the original from which all other are named) is a market town in North Yorkshire.  We have a small, but active, branch that serves the local area, and we have dancers from Barnard Castle, Darlington and Teesside, and members who now live much further afield.  We were formed in 1952, and a small number of the early members are still dancing.

Our main dancing season is from September to April, and our AGM is usually held in May.
