As one of the first events of the 2012 fall semester, Judge Thomas Griffith of the Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit paid a visit to UVA, giving two presentations. Shortly after arriving , Judge Griffith addressed RELLS members and their spouses in an evening fireside. He shared his story of studying at UVA,  pursuing a career in the law, and ultimately obtaining a judicial appointment.

The following day, RELLS, together with the Federalist Society, hosted a school-wide event in which Judge Griffith spoke on the shifting power balance he has observed between the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of the federal government.
