On Wednesday 25th January Peter Symonds College Netball Development Team had their first match of the season against Totton, a regular feature for the two teams now due to the lack of Development Teams in the county.

Symonds started slowly in the first quarter, with Totton dominating with some great shots from their Goal Shooter and some brilliant defending from their Goal Keeper. The quarter ended 3 – 8 to Totton.

After making a few changes to the team in the second quarter Symonds began to get into the game, with some great shooting from Emily Scadgell and Rachel Gelormini and some fantastic defending from Hennie Young, leaving the end of the quarter at 6 – 12 to Totton.

In the third quarter Symonds play began to advance with powerhouse Alex Brown and high jumper Lucy Watson in the centre of court beginning to take control of the game. With Ginny Russell back on court and on fire with her shooting the quarter ended tied at 15 – 15.

After a motivational team talk from coach Sam Ball, Symonds began the fourth quarter brightly, going 17 – 15 up. With some excellent defending from Hennie Young, Symonds managed to keep Totton out as much as possible, while motivational Ginny Russell was on target the other end. With a lot of determination and hard work Symonds won the match 20 – 17.

A brilliant comeback from the Netball Development Team, showing their ability, confidence and motivation to win the game. Player’s Player was named as Hennie Young, who showed her skill and brilliance in defence. The Symonds team are now looking forwards to a repeat fixture with Totton and hoping to improve even further.
