Sneaky Nuts take Symonds Title

The annual Peter Symonds 5-a-side football title has been won convincingly by a team of students calling themselves “The Sneaky Nuts”. The team of largely former Wildern School students consisting of Sam Jenkins, Dan Robertson, Alex Freemantle, Martin Buckthorpe, Sam Fowler, Brad Appleby and Jonny Ngomuo stormed to victory in impressive style. Having won all of their group games and quarter final the Sneaky Nuts demolished the imaginatively named “Deportivo lack-a-talent” in the semi-final by a record score of 15-3. “In eight years of running this tournament this was the best performance I have seen” said competition organiser and referee Paul Rispin. In the final the Sneaky Nuts came up against “The Comets” a team of former Kings’ School students consisting of Ben Davies, Tom Barnes,  Ziggy Redstall,  Rhys Kibble,  Adam Lusty,  Alex Gray and Mike Gibbons. The early stages of the final were cagey with both sides looking for a gap in the opponents defence. Eventually the deadlock was broken by a moment of skill from Jonny Ngomuo who beat two men before drilling the ball home. The Sneaky Nuts went on to dominate the final winning 5-1 with Sam Jenkins grabbing a brace of goals and Martin Buckthorpe and Alex Freemantle also getting on the score sheet. The team are all year 12 students so will be back next year to try to become the first team to ever win back-to-back Peter Symonds 5-a-side titles.
