Как в кино: клубится в солнечном свете

кавалерии коленчатый вал.

У доски – нарядный дедушка Федя.

Он рассказывает, как воевал.

И внимают в непривычном молчанье

матершинники, лгуны, бунтари,

незадачливые однополчане,

одноклассники родные мои.

As in movies: sunlit dust from the horde

of the cavalry’s knee-jointed cloud.

Grandpa Fyodor, - dressed up, at the board.

He tells stories of war to the crowd.

And they listen, unusually quiet,

vulgar liars and mutineers,

these brothers-in-arms who are dying,

my classmates, my relatives here.
