"As the azure evening is darkening..."
As the azure evening is darkening,
As the stars light the skyline anew,
And the bird-cherry tree begins sparkling
Dressed in pearls of the silvery dew,
Slowly open the gate to the garden,
And like a shadow, walk slowly ahead.
Wear the darkest old cloak for a garment,
Let the lace softly cover your head.
Where the branches are dense and encasing,
I will wait in the arbor, eclipsed.
At the threshold, I’ll greet you, embracing,
And remove all the lace from dear lips.
Slowly open the gate to the garden,
And like a shadow, walk slowly ahead.
Wear the darkest old cloak for a garment,
Let the lace softly cover your head.
