"Again, I'm greeting the parade..."

Again, I’m greeting the parade
of gilded foliage in the yard,
a loud woodpecker in the shade
raps out a warning for his part.
Still half asleep, a leaf is blown
from see-through birches to the pane.
I’ve turned the water off. The lawn
will be sustained by frequent rain.
The chimney puffs, the clouds whirl,
the dawn peeks out with faint rays
of late October’s golden curls
that drown in the moistened haze.
No more commotion, no more din,
and no more battles left to wager.
I'm left to watch and to breathe in
the cold and soundless, boundless nature.
